A VIDEO CO-STARRING STRAWBERRY BANANA DUETTO!

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

When it comes to the world of television and internet video, you never know where Turkey Hill will pop up. On “The Office,” there’s a Turkey Hill magnet on the refrigerator in the break room. At least it was there all of last season. Not sure if someone cleaned off the fridge for the new upcoming season. Turkey Hill ice cream also made an appearance on The Sopranos, when Tony Soprano himself scooped himself a late night snack. Hey, even mob bosses need their fix now and then!

More recently, a comedic duo called Bang Boom Crash from York, PA (right next door to Lancaster County) placed a carton of Turkey Hill’s Strawberry Banana Duetto front-and-center in a short video they made, entitled “Good News.” Check it out for yourself below!

We chatted with Stefan, one of the co-creators of the video (he’s the one doing the slapping and enjoying the Duetto) and encouraged him to incorporate Turkey Hill ice cream into more Bang Boom Crash videos. Anyone got any ideas for some short, funny videos they could create that might feature ice cream?

Here’s another stellar recipe from our holiday contest submissions. This one was submitted by Kathy S. of Cambria, CA and originally made with Peppermint Stick ice cream, but has been converted into a Duetto recipe. Enjoy!

CHOCOLATE COVERED CHERRY DUETTO SMOOTHIE

2-1/2 cups Turkey Hill Cherry Duetto
1/4 cup chocolate syrup
1 cup milk
6 large ice cubes
Sweetened whipped cream (in can)

In blender, combine cream cheese, Cherry Duetto, chocolate syrup, milk and ice cubes. Blend until smooth or until desired consistency is reached. Pour into chilled glasses. Top with whipped cream. If desired, drizzle with additional chocolate syrup. Serve immediately!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FARM SHOW!

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

As reported previously on the Ice Cream Journal, Turkey Hill is sampling our wares – including Duetto and our new ice cream cakes – at the Pennsylvania Farm Show (January 10-17). Yesterday, the Turkey Hill Team helped celebrate the 93rd birthday of the Farm Show by presenting an oversized ice cream cake to Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Dennis Wolff.

Thankfully, we were able to find a cake artist who could replicate the Turkey Hill logo on the cake. It looked so nice, we almost didn’t want to cut it up, but we did, and everyone loved it! The Farm Show will be open for another three days, so feel free to visit and stop by the Turkey Hill booth!

12 DAYS OF ICE CREAM (DAY 7): MILLIE THE CAT

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

Many of you may have noticed that we forgot to post an entry yesterday. Sorry about that. But the good news is, that means we’ll be posting THREE entries (which means three prizes) in the next 48 hours in order to get all of our 12 Days of Ice Cream entries published before December 25!

Thanks to Lee C. from Philadelphia, PA, for sending us this photo of “silly Millie” enjoying some Cherry Duetto. Lee says licking the bottom of the Duetto carton is one of Millie’s “favorite things to do.” Funny thing is, for a lot of us here at the office, it’s our favorite thing to do, too!

NOTE: Because some dogs and other pets are prone to lactose intolerance, care should be taken when feeding your pet ice cream. Like most “people food” treats, moderation is the key. Talk to your veterinarian if you have questions about your pet’s ability to eat ice cream.

TODAY’S PRIZE:  The soft and cuddly little guy on the right is today’s prize for one commenter chosen at random from this entry. He’s the Ice Clown Plus from a company called Evil Ice Cream. The name may sound ominous, but they actually make a variety of very cute toys!

RECIPE: DUETTO LEMON PIE

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Like we said last week, lately some members of the Turkey Hill team have been travelling to various cities to talk about Turkey Hill on local TV news shows. The theme for most of those appearances is “cooking with ice cream” and what we usually make is our famously simple Duetto Lemon Pie. Of course, as you’ll see from the recipe below, it’s not really “cooking” but that doesn’t mean it’s not delicious. Has anyone used ice cream as a cooking ingredient, even if it’s something simple like this?

INGREDIENTS:
Turkey Hill Lemon Duetto
8 oz container cool whip
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1 lemon
1 Graham cracker pie crust

DIRECTIONS:  Scoop Lemon Duetto ice cream into piecrust.  Fill 3/4 to top.  In a bowl mix cool whip with lemon juice.  Cover Lemon Duetto with cool whip mixture. Cut lemon slices to garnish top. Serves eight.
