RECIPE: ELECTION NIGHT PARTY ICE CREAM CAKE

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Election day is only four days away, and no matter which candidate you support, an election night party is always a great way to bring together friends and family. That’s why we invented this Election Night Party Ice Cream Cake recipe. Half of it is blue (for the Democrats at your party) and half of it is red (for Republican invitees). Once served, guests can cast their “vote” by eating either a red piece or a blue piece. May the best half win!

Since no actual pictures of this cake exist, below is a crude drawing of the cake. Please pardon our artistic skills.INGREDIENTS

• 1 box of Vanilla cake mix (additional ingredients may be required based on cake mix instructions)
• 1 1.5 quart container of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
• 1 bottle of blue food coloring
• 1 bottle of red food coloring
• 1 container of white cake frosting
• Appropriate patriotic cake decorations (stars, etc.)

DIRECTIONS

Prepare vanilla cake mix according to directions on box in cake pan of appropriate size. After cake has finished baking, remove from oven and place in the refrigerator to cool for approximately one hour.

While cake is cooling, separate Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream into equal portions in two separate bowls. Add a small amount of blue food coloring to one bowl and a small amount of red food coloring to the other. Mix ice cream and food coloring until color is blended throughout. More food coloring may be required to achieve desired blue and red colors.

After cake has cooled, carefully cut the cake horizontally to create two layers. Place the bottom layer on a platter. With ice cream softened (you may need to let the ice cream warm a bit and stir it), spread the blue ice cream on half of the bottom half of the cake and the red ice cream on the other half of the bottom half of the cake. Place the top layer of the cake over the ice cream and place in the freezer for one hour to allow ice cream to harden.

While cake and ice cream is hardening, mix half of the white frosting with some blue food coloring and half with red food coloring to create blue and red frosting.

Once cake and ice cream has hardened, remove from freezer. Spread the blue frosting on the half with the blue ice cream and the red frosting on the half with red ice cream. Adorn edges of cake with stars or other patriotic decorations.

Place in freezer until ready to serve.
