INTRODUCING TURKEY HILL’S “TURKEY DAY TRIPLE FUDGE” (AKA “PROJECT NINE”)

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Over the past 30 years, Turkey Hill has created a variety of new ice cream and frozen dessert products, but the one we’re about to unveil here is without a doubt our most unusual flavor yet. After many months of research and testing, Turkey Hill Dairy is proud to announce a new fall Limited Edition super premium ice cream flavor called “Turkey Day Triple Fudge.”

Turkey Day Triple Fudge is designed to take the best parts of Thanksgiving dinner and unite them in a very rich, creamy, frosty dessert. It does that by combining super premium chocolate ice cream with morsels of real turkey covered in dark chocolate swirled with sweet potato, chocolate fudge and cranberry sauce. Yes, you read that right – it contains real turkey and a sweet potato swirl.

Before you scoff at the thought of poultry in your ice cream, you should know that many people here at Turkey Hill Dairy thought the same thing when the idea was first discussed in our quarterly new product development meeting last summer. As many of may know, unusual ice cream ingredients – including meat – have been popular in Asian ice cream flavors for many years. Recently, the trend has made successful appearances in certain European ice cream shops and Turkey Hill Dairy is happy to introduce the concept here in the United States.

Yes, it’s a bold move, but if our own ice cream guru, Ernie, likes it, you know it’s got to be good. Ernie has been quoted as saying the flavor can “turn a vegetarian into a meat lover, one scoop at a time!” (Speaking of Ernie, some of you may be wondering why Turkey Day Triple Fudge was given the internal codename “Nine,” as revealed in Ernie’s blog entry earlier this month. The reason was because in initial consumer focus group testing, the new flavor received a score of nine out of 10 in taste, which is a very high ranking!)

Turkey Day Triple Fudge will be available wherever Turkey Hill ice cream is sold beginning in late October and will likely remain on shelves through December. If sales are strong enough, we may consider making it a year-round permanent part of the Turkey Hill ice cream line-up!

Welcome to the newest members of the Stuff’d lineup!

Friday, March 12th, 2010

We’re always happy when we can take a Limited Edition ice cream flavor and turn it into a full time flavor. That’s why were happy to announce two new additions to our pint-sized Stuff’d line-up: Double Dunker and South of the Border. (And no, these aren’t the “secret” flavors Ernie talked about in Wednesday’s blog entry.)

Some of you may already be familiar with our Double Dunker flavor, which made its Limited Edition debut last year and will make another appearance as our June Limited Edition flavor in our full-sized ice cream line-up. Double Dunker is described as Mocha light ice cream swirled with chewy cookie dough and crunchy chocolate cookie swirl.

Our new South of the Border flavor also made an appearance in the 2009 Limited Edition line-up under the name “Fried Ice Cream.” Like Double Dunker, it’s also a 2010 Limited Edition flavor (April). South of the Border is cinnamon light ice cream swirled with cinnamon sopapilla and sweet tostada pieces. Some would say it’s very good, while others might says it’s muy bueno!

Speaking of flavors, the votes are pouring in for the first round of this year’s Ultimate Flavor Tournament. If you haven’t already voted, you can sound off with the polls on the right. Round one will end on Monday and the winners will advance to round two. There are still a few match-ups that are very close, so anything can happen this weekend. We’re keeping a close eye on the Cookies Match-Up between Cookies ‘n Cream and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. That’s a huge first round showdown between two powerhouse flavors and it’s the closest race of all so far!

A PEEK AT THIS YEAR’S LIMITED EDITION FLAVORS

Friday, January 8th, 2010

On Wednesday we talked about our newest frozen yogurt flavor, PomBlueberry Chocolate Truffle. Today, we thought we’d give everyone a sneek peek at the Limited Edition ice cream flavors for the entire 2010 year. Some of them are returning Limited Edition flavors from previous years (based on sales and your positive feedback) and others are brand new.

Keep in mind, the monthly Limited Edition calendar is very flexible. The timing of when each flavor will be in your local grocery store depends mainly on when your store’s grocery/freezer manager orders it and decides to stock it. In other words, even though the April Limited Edition flavor is Fried Ice Cream, you might not see it in your freezer aisle until late April while others might not see it until May. Either way, keep your eyes open for these frozen treats!

JANUARY – Gertrude Hawk Box of Chocolates (Milk chocolate ice cream with dark chocolate raspberry cups, chocolate almonds and white chocolate chunks swirled with chocolate chips.)

FEBRUARY – Coconut Cream Pie (Creamy coconut ice cream swirled with coconut cream pie pieces.)

MARCH – Vanilla Swiss Almond (Vanilla flavored ice cream with choco almonds.)

APRIL – Fried Ice Cream (Cinnamon ice cream swirled with cinnamon sopapilla and sweet tostada pieces.)

MAY – Souther Lemon Pie (Tangy lemon ice cream swirled with whipped marshmallow and shortbread pieces.)

JUNE – Double Dunker (Mocha ice cream swirled with chewy cookie dough and crunchy chocolate cookie swirl.)

JUNE-SEPTEMBER – Peaches ‘n Cream (Peach ice cream with sweet peach slices.)

JULY – Chunky Peanut Butter (NEW!) (Vanilla ice cream with chunky peanut butter swirl and peanut crumbles.)

AUGUST – YORK Peppermint Pattie (NEW!) (White mint ice cream with mini YORK Peppermint Patties and chocolate mint swirl.)

SEPTEMBER – Baked Apple Dumpling (Cinnamon ice cream with caramel apple swirl and apple dumpling pieces.)

OCTOBER – German Chocolate Cake (Chocolate ice cream swirled with coconut caramel and pieces of fudge cake.)

NOVEMBER – Ginger Snap (Spiced ice cream swirled with ginger snap cookies.)

OCTOBER-DECEMBER – Egg Nog (Rich egg nog ice cream with rum flavoring and spicy nutmeg.)

THE JULY ICE CREAM PARTY IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW ON THIS ENTRY!

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

NOTE: For this entry, if you’d like to, please put your hometown and state at the end of each comment to let people know where everyone at this party is from!

.

Let the party begin!

This Wednesday night, everyone is invited to visit the Ice Cream Journal with a Turkey Hill Limited Edition flavor and chat with the group via comment about what you liked (or didn’t like) about the flavor. You may even choose to sample multiple flavors…we know we will.

The Limited Edition flavors you may find in your store include Fried Ice Cream (April), Peanut Butter Brownie (May), Southern Lemon Pie (June) or, our newest Limited Edition flavor, Double Dunker. If you can’t find a Limited Edition flavor or prefer a Light Recipe flavor, just grab some of that and join us anyhow!

You can chat about anything you’d like, but here are a few questions to consider when commenting during our party:

1. Did the flavor taste the way you imagined it would?

2. Did you like it? If so, should we make it a permanent flavor in the Turkey Hill line-up?

3. What’s your favorite part of the flavor?

4. What would you change (if anything) about the flavor?

5. What sort of toppings would go well with the flavor?

6. If you could change the name of the flavor, what would you call it?

7. Is there anything in the world better than an ice cream party?

The Turkey Hill Team will be here too, chatting right along with you and answering any questions you may have. See you Wednesday night… and like we said in the subject line, feel free to invite a friend either by forwarding this blog entry to them or inviting them over to your house to join in the fun. The more, the merrier!

LIMITED EDITION JUNIOR MINTS IS (FINALLY) HERE!

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

We know it’s a little late, but trust us when we say, this flavor is worth the wait. According to the schedule in the back of the Turkey Hill calendar, Junior Mints was listed as the May Limited Edition flavor but it’s finally hitting stores in late June and should be available through July.

Turkey Hill’s Junior Mints Ice Cream is creamy mint-flavored ice cream swirled with rich fudge and loaded with Junior Mint Minis. The most interesting thing about the flavor is how the mint, which is already cool and refreshing in its candy form, combines with the coldness of the ice cream to become even more refreshing. With a warm July ahead of us, maybe it’s a good thing this flavor was delayed.

On a previous post about our limited edition flavors we noticed some of you were having difficulty finding a particular limited edition flavor. We know how much you look forward to trying some of these new flavors, because we can’t wait to either. Here’s a little insight into how Limited Edition flavors make their way into your store that may help you understand why you can’t find them right away. Each Limited Edition flavor is made near the beginning of the month, however stores won’t be able to get the new flavor in stock until the previous month’s supply is sold out. So if you are going to the store and can only find last month’s flavor, don’t give up hope, it will be coming soon!
