Would you eat it: Lobster ice cream

Posted by Turkey Hill Team on January 24th, 2014

When it comes to seafood, you either love it or you don’t. But of all the ocean-bred options, perhaps none is more universally loved than lobster. Not only does it taste AMAZING, but it gets even better when it’s drenched in butter!

Of course, some regions of the United States love lobster a little more than others. Maine is one of those locations. Ben & Bill’s Chocolate Emporium in Bar Harbor, Maine knows that better than anyone because they’ve created a lobster-flavored ice cream. The flavor features a butter-flavored ice cream base with real pieces of fresh, buttered lobster folded into each bite.

According to the Ben & Bill’s website, the buttery flavor is one of the store’s most popular concoctions, with hundreds of people lining up to sample it every day. And just like the crustacean inside it, the treat isn’t cheap — a half-gallon contain will set you back $21.90.

Cost aside, the real question is: Would you try it?

  6. Betty says:

  7. Anita says:

Sure, They don’t seem to be presenting it as a sweet dessert. I would like a lobster ice cream that had a newburg sauce flavoring, e.g. After all some chefs have been presenting ices or sorbets as palate refreshers made with garlic, tomato or herbs. Think I would draw the line at other shellfish, other than shrimp…can’t imagine oysters, scallops or clams as an ice cream. However, for the price I would prefer to buy the three or four lobsters available for same and simply have boiled lobster with drawn butter thank you.

  8. MC says:

I would try anything at least once.

  9. sue hulme says:

why not..the sweet and savory of most items are daunting at first…not sure about the price though!

would taste good especially if you had ground up lobster shells to sprinkle on top of the ice cream

  24. Anita Schrott says:

No, love my lobster warm & ice cream cold. The butter ice cream & lobster doesn’t sound horrible, but why put them together? Some things are best enjoyed separately!

  39. Ellen says:

  40. SANDI MOJZUK says:

No,,,, not a sea food lover… I am a see food lover though…

  41. Dick says:

  44. Mary says:

I would love to try it!

  45. Pam says:

I would definitely try it, but I would never pay $21.90 for a half gallon!

  46. Marta says:

Lobster THEN Ice Cream. Notice the THEN. I love them both but want one to follow the other.

  47. Vicki Spokes says:

    Absolutely Not!!!!

  48. Joan says:

Absolutely would try Buttery ice cream with lobster. Sounds terrific. Thanks for asking.

  49. robert defrank says:

I hate seafood so no way I would eat lobster ice cream, but even if I didn’t hate seafood I wouldn’t eat it…some things are not meant to be incorporated into ice cream & lobster is one of them!

  50. REGGIE MCGEE says:

  51. Abe Cimijotti says:

Dear Turkey Hill, I am a great fan of your products. Today I purchased a carton of your Rum Raisin ice cream from our local market. I love raisins especially the golden ones but raisins do not make an acceptable desert. They do not enhance the flavor or taste of this product. More rum and less no raisins would probably be great. This is my opinion but others may think otherwise. Thanks.

  52. Harriet G. says:

No, thank you. I love ice cream, but I do not eat Lobster.

  53. kitty says:

I love your ice cream. I love lobster, but don’t cross them.
    Bad move. Very bad move.

  54. LindaR says:

Sure, as long as somebody’s treating me, it’s quite expensive.

  55. michelle fuller says:

    No thanks.

  56. Ida Beek says:

Love lobster….love ice cream…..BUT NOT TOGETHER

  57. Vera says:

    would not even try

  58. mary ann herrmann says:

    …sorry, guys, not a chance!!

  59. Carol J. Cottone says:

I feel this would be an a “local taste option!” Maine Residents: “Enjoy!”

  60. Ron says:

Like lobster. Love ice cream. But I will keep them separate as dinner and desert. In either order!

  61. Marion says:

    No. It is disgusting!

  62. Debbie says:

No no no no no no no!!!!!!!

  63. CHRISTINE says:

  64. joan kaplan says:

Sounds fishy, expensive and unappetizing! Would not buy it.

  65. cheryl williams says:

I don’t think so. No way. Not a good combination.

  66. leecarr says:

of course I would eat lobster ice cream, would it be served with some melted butter on the side for dipping???

  67. Jean Marie says:

That’s funny. We’re having lobster bisque. I would not it in ice cream though.

  68. Ann King says:

The last time we were in Maine, we even had lobster for breakfast and when we were in Bar harbor, we tried the lobster ice cream. It was different from any ice cream I ever tried and I guess I liked it because of the lobster flavor. My husband and I eat lobster every time we go up there and nothing else. I have to admit, I like it better as the entree and not the dessert.

  69. Andrea says:

I would definitely try lobster ice cream and hope my husband wouldn’t crave it since it is too pricey.

  70. Joan says:

    Good heavens why?

  71. Edie says:

Please do not even consider adding this flavor!!!

  72. Michael Eddy says:

Not a chance. Not even if it came with a side of melted butter ice cream/\.

  73. Elizabeth says:

Since I can’t imagine Turkey Hill being so cruel as to subject lobsters to further humiliation by adding them to ice cream, I trust that this flavor would not even be considered. I for one would not continue to purchase ice cream from Turkey Hill if they did.

  74. Donna says:

I am not crazy about the combination -but sometimes these things taste better than our brain imagines-so I would give it a taste, but at that price I might wait for someone to give me a free taste.

  75. Laurie B. says:

Are you kidding…YES! Ice cream and lobster. What’s not to like.

  76. Pamela says:

Not as a dessert; perhaps as a between course palate ceanser, of sorts.

  77. ges says:

Try most anything at least once!

  78. Linda says:

Love ice cream but no way do I want it mixed with my seafood. Of course after my seafood meal I would love a big dish of ice cream for dessert

  79. Robin Ames says:

    Sounds nauseating.

  80. Bob Kessler Jr says:

Keep the two separate. You are ruining the unique flavors of both when they are combined. I like my lobster and butter but warm and not cooled down by combining it with ice cream. Keep lobster as an entrée and ice cream as a dessert.

  81. marie says:

    i’d try a spoonful.

  82. BUD TWIGG says:

I love all kinds of ice cream, so there would be no problem eating Lobster Ice Cream!!

  83. Lydia says:

no way gross I hate lobster that would ruin the ice cream yuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  84. JOAN m says:

    NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  85. Jim in SOMD says:

I can understand many locations where lobster ice cream would be expensive, but I have been to maine a few times and bought lopbster, both live to take home and at restaurants, where it was reasonable and even got a secod lobster with the dinner for another $5. Now this was many years ago, as it was early in my Navy career, but still Maine is for lobster like corn is to Iowa. During the right season, it is so plentiful, they just about give it away.

  86. sue says:

i might be persuaded to have a small sample–but no way would i pay that price!!

  87. Sally says:

I love both of them, but I’d never eat them together.

  88. Brenna says:

No way! As much as I love lobster, the idea of eating it in the form of ice cream would make me nervous. I expect all ice cream to be sweet, and I can’t even begin to imagine how lobster ice cream would taste.
